Founded in 1979 in Osaka by Shigeharu Tagaki, a designer who studied tailoring in France, Studio D'Artisan is a pioneering force in Japanese denim. As a founding member of the legendary "Osaka Five," the brand played a crucial role in reviving vintage American workwear using traditional Japanese craftsmanship and antique shuttle looms. Tagaki’s vision was not merely to replicate vintage jeans, but to reconstruct them with original design elements, leading to the creation of the iconic DO-1 raw selvedge denim jean in 1986.
