Founded by Shawn Stussy in the early 1980s, Stüssy originated not as a clothing line but from hand-shaped surfboards scrawled with a distinctive, graffiti-inspired signature. After gaining traction in the Laguna Beach surf scene, Stussy began screen-printing the logo on t-shirts, which quickly eclipsed the boards in popularity.
