Founded in 2010 by author and activist Barb Stegemann, The 7 Virtues is a Canadian social enterprise that reframes fragrance as an instrument for peace and empowerment. The brand was born from a promise to a friend, a soldier wounded in Afghanistan, to continue his mission of peace. Stegemann, a former journalist, launched the company from her garage by sourcing legal orange blossom and rose oils from Afghan farmers to provide an alternative to the illegal poppy cultivation. This foundational ethos of 'Make Perfume Not War®' has since expanded to sourcing fair-trade, natural, and organic essential oils from other nations rebuilding from strife, including Haiti, Rwanda, and Madagascar.
