Founded in 1997 by Yasuko Furuta, a graduate of Esmod in Paris, Toga is a Tokyo-based label celebrated for its intellectual and experimental approach to fashion. After starting her career as a costume designer, Furuta launched Toga to create complex, contemporary designs for a wider audience, establishing a distinct identity that merges Western subcultural aesthetics with traditional Japanese design principles. The brand is recognized for its deconstructed yet wearable pieces, which often feature a hybrid of contrasting fabrics, bold prints, and architectural silhouettes. Signature items include sculptural tailored garments and, most notably, footwear and accessories adorned with intricate, Western-style silver buckles and hardware, which have become a cult favorite.
