Founded in 2008 by the husband-and-wife team Tom Patterson and Erin Fujimoto, Tommy John began with a singular mission: to redesign men's undershirts. Patterson, a former medical device salesman, was frustrated with base layers that bunched, untucked, and lost their shape. With no formal background in fashion, he engineered a patented tapered design that guaranteed to stay tucked, launching the brand from their apartment. This problem-solving approach became the company’s signature, leading to an expansion into underwear, socks, and loungewear for both men and women.
