Founded in 1989 by Augustine Tse, a Hong Kong–born entrepreneur who sought to modernize the traditional cashmere industry, TSE (pronounced "say") established itself as a pioneer of American luxury minimalism. Launching in Los Angeles, the brand radically shifted the perception of cashmere from a staid, conventional fabric into a medium for architectural design and everyday ease. By treating the fiber with the same versatility as cotton or silk, TSE introduced lighter weights and fluid drapes that became synonymous with the 1990s "quiet luxury" aesthetic.
