vanguard records

Founded in 1950 in New York City by brothers Maynard and Seymour Solomon—classical music lovers who championed non-mainstream genres—Vanguard Records is a legendary independent label that shaped the trajectory of American music. Initially focused on classical recordings, the label quickly expanded its repertoire to capture the vibrant energy of the jazz, folk, and blues movements. Vanguard is renowned for its high-fidelity analog recordings, extensive sleeve notes, and classic graphic design, appealing to audiophiles and dedicated music collectors. The label's catalog features pivotal works from iconic artists such as Joan Baez, Buddy Guy, and Country Joe and the Fish, cementing its role as a cultural cornerstone during the 1960s folk revival.
