Founded in 2014 by brothers Demna and Guram Gvasalia, Vetements began as a design collective in Paris with a mission to refocus fashion on clothing itself. Drawing from Demna’s background at Maison Margiela and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, the brand quickly became known for a deconstructed and oversized style that elevated everyday garments into high-fashion statements. Its signature items include dramatically proportioned hoodies, reconstructed denim, and provocative graphic tees, such as the infamous DHL shirt from its Spring/Summer 2016 collection that cemented its status as a cultural phenomenon. Vetements' approach is often described as a form of meta-commentary on consumerism, hype, and the fashion system, using irony and collaborations with brands like Juicy Couture and Reebok to subvert expectations.
