Founded in 1991 by friends Richard Woolcott and Tucker Hall, Volcom emerged from a spontaneous snowboarding trip in Tahoe as America’s first brand to unite the cultures of surfing, skating, and snowboarding. With an initial ethos of “youth against establishment,” the Costa Mesa, California-based label channeled the raw, anti-establishment energy of the early ‘90s into its products. This spirit was built by its founders, both avid boarders who knew nothing about making clothes but were driven by creative passion. The brand is defined by its boardshorts, outerwear, denim, and graphic tees, all designed with a blend of functionality and a distinctive artistic lens.
