Founded in 1985 by Karen Rowantree Smiley in Maine, Womanswork was born from a simple frustration: the lack of durable, properly fitting work gloves for women. Rather than simply downsizing men’s gloves and adding floral prints, the brand pioneered performance handwear engineered specifically for the anatomical shape of women’s hands. Today, the company is based in Connecticut and remains proudly women-owned, having been passed down through four generations of female leadership, most recently acquired by glove specialist Heather Cameron Hall in 2026.
