Founded in Paris in 2010 by designer Yohan Serfaty and entrepreneur Gilles Elalouf, Y/Project began with a dark, gothic-inspired, and leather-focused menswear aesthetic. Following Serfaty's passing in 2013, the brand was radically transformed by Belgian designer Glenn Martens, who had previously been Serfaty's assistant. Martens injected a conceptual, avant-garde energy, establishing a new identity rooted in architectural deconstruction, versatility, and a playful irreverence. He was celebrated for twisting historical references with contemporary streetwear, creating sculptural and often gender-fluid garments that challenged conventional silhouettes.
