Alpacas come in two types, and the difference shows up in the fleece. Huacaya fleece grows with a crimp that gives it loft and a woolly look, while Suri fleece grows in long, straight locks that hang down the animal in ropes, closer to dreadlocks than to a sheep's coat. Those uncrimped fibers take light differently, which is where Suri gets its luster, and spun into yarn they leave a halo of fine hairs standing off the surface. Suri alpacas account for roughly 10% of the world's alpaca population, so the fleece is harder to come by and prized by the people who work with it. 3sixteen knits this season's Classic Cardigan from a Suri alpaca and wool blend in cobalt, and the character of the fiber carries the piece: light and airy in the hand, hairy and textured across the surface, with a quiet sheen running through the color. The cut keeps its usual shape with a v-neck, raglan shoulder detailing worked into the front, ribbed cuffs and hem, and a simple collar, all of it finished with corozo buttons and knit in Peru. 74% Suri alpaca / 22% wool / 4% polyamide V-neck Front raglan shoulder detailing Ribbed cuffs and hem Corozo buttons Knit in Peru Size Chest Shoulder Length Sleeve S 19.5" 17 25 25 M 21.5 17.5 26 26.5 L 23 18 27 26.5 XL 24 19 27.5 26.5 2X 25.5 20 28 26.5 A variance of +/-.5 is within tolerance. Fit Notes: Shop owner Tommy is wearing a large in this piece. He always likes his sweaters to fit a bit more slouchy, so he figured sizing up couldn't hurt. The knitwear tends to run about a size smaller than the shirting and jackets these days. Tommy is 5'9," 160lbs with a 40" chest. table { width: 100%; border-collapse: collapse; } th, td { border: 1px solid black; padding: 8px; text-align: center; } th { background-color: #f2f2f2; }
