## Description

ESCALES (Ports of Call) by Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) is an orchestral suite recalling his travels on his honeymoon. Its three movements are Rome-Palermo, which conjures southern Italy with tarantella rhythms; Tunis-Nefta, which quotes a folk tune the composer heard in the Tunisian desert, and the Spanish music-inspired Valencia. Written during his residency after winning the Prix de Rome, ESCALES remains one of Ibert's most performed pieces today. It premiered in Paris in January 1924. Instrumentation: 2(2dPicc)+Picc.2+EH.2.3: 4.3.3.1: Timp.Perc(5-6): Clst.Hp(2): Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set). Reprint edition.
