For well-made wardrobe building blocks, it helps to start with a good technique. Burma cloth, a fundamental weaving method in which threads interlace alternately to form a checkerboard-like pattern, allows for texture that is stronger and firmer than most, making it an ideal match for our work shirt. The payoff of this tight weave structure is twofold: high thread density and snag-resistance. While any raw materials can be used to produce burma cloth, we figured a breathable 100% cotton can do no wrong. With the framework in place, we made light and dark variations, with Louropel buttons sourced from Portugal, double-needle stitching, and a discreet cuff-to-elbow patch.
