Pure undyed Shetland breed fiber, sourced from naturally black sheep, knitted into a seam-free cardigan built to endure harsh climates. This genuine black wool comes from rare black Shetland sheep whose fleece produces a permanent, deep color impossible to achieve through dyeing. Undyed, the wool preserves its natural softness and develops rich tonal variations through gradual, even fading over time. Made in collaboration with Harley of Scotland, this cardigan sweater uses the same 2-ply worsted-spun Shetland yarn as our 5-Gauge Shetlands. For this version, the yarn is doubled up and knitted on a coarser 3.5-gauge machine. The result is a heavier garment, twice the weight, with thermal properties to match. The seamless construction, refined by Harley over nearly a century, eliminates the need for sewn seams and their associated weak points. The heavier gauge creates a more open knit, trapping air for insulation. Breathability is maintained. The wool comes from Shetland sheep, native to Scotland's northern islands for over a thousand years. This is what we call 'working wool'—wool intentionally bred for resilience, warmth, and longevity over luxury-level softness. The fiber's structure resists pilling, so the sweater maintains its surface. Worn with an outer shell or as a first layer of defense, the Black Sheep is an essential cold-weather companion.
