On May 24, 1962, astronaut Scott Carpenter orbited Earth three times on NASA’s Mercury-Atlas 7 mission. On his wrist was a one-of-a-kind Breitling Navitimer—custom-built for space. At his request, it featured a wider bezel for gloved hands, a stretch-metal bracelet to fit over his spacesuit, and most crucially, a 24-hour dial. In orbit, where the sun rises and sets every 90 minutes, that display would keep him grounded in time. Delivered just days before liftoff, it became the first Swiss wristwatch in space. Now, to mark the centenary of Scott Carpenter’s birth, Breitling presents the Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Scott Carpenter Centenary. Cased in platinum, it’s a tribute to one of the great names in space exploration.
