When we set out to design our Fatigue Field Jacket, we went straight to the U.S. Army Archive in search of 60s-era Tropical Combat Jackets to reference. Known colloquially as a “jungle jacket,” it was a lightweight military coat designed for hot, humid environments. Ours is midweight, not lightweight, but shares roughly the same silhouette: an exposed front-button placket, a fold-down collar, and four distinct front-facing pockets, albeit flap pockets rather than patch pockets at the hips. Cut from stretch-cotton reverse sateen—our take on the fabric the U.S. Army eventually came to favor over herringbone twill—it is soft against the skin yet weather-resistant on the outside, with a lived-in, matte-looking, garment-washed and -dyed finish. It’s our nod to the military surplus that helped define Americana style, updated for comfort and modern utility.
