The PK24™ Wicker Lounge Chair (1965) by designer and architect Poul Kjærholm represents a dynamic moment in Danish design. A trained cabinetmaker, Kjærholm created this comfortable, sinuous marvel of engineering using a streamlined, organically curved steel frame. Perhaps the most recognizable of his chairs, the PK24 was inspired by the Rococo period and French chaise longues, but reinterpreted with modern clarity. Kjærholm called it the “Hammock Chair” because it effortlessly suspends the body between two points, creating a stress-melting feeling of weightlessness. There is no hardware connecting the lounge seat to the base – only gravity: It glides along the frame to adjust to your desired position. The seat is covered in handwoven wicker, with an adjustable leather head cushion held in place by a stainless-steel counterweight. This beautifully crafted midcentury icon carves out a slender, striking, and inviting silhouette, deserving of a place of honor in any home – but it’s not made simply to admire, it’s meant to be used and enjoyed. Made in Denmark.
