This IWC Grande Complication, reference 3770, holds a singular place in the manufacture's history as its first minute-repeating wristwatch and its first grande complication — the chiming mechanism the defining achievement, developed for IWC by the workshop of Renaud et Papi. Powered by the automatic calibre 79091, it gathers that repeater alongside a perpetual calendar with a four-digit year display and a chronograph, three of horology's most exacting mechanisms in a single platinum case. The calendar follows IWC's mechanically programmed system, every indication advancing together through the crown. Made in strictly limited annual runs and individually numbered to fifty, it is a genuinely rare piece to secure. The platinum case measures 42mm across and 16.4mm in thickness, its restrained round form giving little hint of the mechanical density within, yet wearing with real presence. A white lacquer dial, evoking the porcelain dials of vintage IWC pocket watches, keeps the crowded display remarkably legible — and few wristwatches state the brand's ambition so plainly, their time struck aloud on demand.
