Waffle knits earn their place in cold weather through geometry. The honeycomb structure raises and recesses the surface into hundreds of small pockets, and each one holds a little air against the body, which is why waffle insulates while still breathing freely and why it spent a century as the standard for thermal underwear before anyone wore it on the outside. orSlow knits this one in Japan at 5.8oz with a soft hand and a good amount of give, helped along by the single percent of polyurethane blended into the cotton body, which lets the knit stretch as you move and return to shape afterward. The texture is the point as much as the warmth here, breaking up the surface of an outfit in a way a flat jersey leaves alone. Ribbing finishes the collar and the sleeve ends in 100% cotton.
