Published in honor of Louis Poulsen’s 150th anniversary, First House of Light (Phaidon, 2024) illuminates the history of the influential Danish lighting company, from its founding in 1874 to its global standing in design today. The book explores Poul Henningsen’s PH lamps – groundbreaking in their balance of function and aesthetics – and innovative collaborations with mid-century and contemporary designers like Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, Olafur Eliasson, GamFratesi, and Nendo. Over 200 archival drawings and photographs, many previously unpublished, are included.
