## Description

Raf Simons’ fall 2002 output, “Virginia Creeper,” deployed camouflage and bondage-wear amongst innocuous camp sweaters and letterman jackets. It was a perversion of classic Americana - an expounding on the proclivities that simmer beneath the white-picket fences of small towns. It was a wholly unique theme for the fashion world, with kindred spirits more commonly found in works like Truman Capote’s “In Cold Blood.” The contrast of civil and taboo garments was a stimulating exhibition of the duality of youth, a desire to both conform and subvert, something Simons’ early work such as “How to Talk to Your Teen” similarly explored.
