Raf Simons’ fall 2005 collection drastically departed from his work composed beforehand. The shapes were decidedly modern, playing with shape and juxtaposing impossibly narrow tops against wide-cut trousers, and vice-versa. Military details with inverted proportions were adopted, such as trench-coat belts which pulled tight like a corset around the waist, and officer jackets with padded shoulders. The graphic pieces released for “History of my World” presented a contrast from the severity of the runway. The words and images, arranged by Peter De Potter, offered a portrait of melancholy more commonly associated with Simons. The now-famous phrase “All Shadows and Deliverance,” was taken from a song titled “One Hundred Years” by the Cure, and appears excerpted on this hoodie, which features extreme proportions, fitting massively oversized atop the wearer, with its slashed-open body giving it the appearance of a cape.
