## Summary

Framed 18th-century American manuscript featuring ornamental pen and ink calligraphy recording a birth from 1791, presented in a natural wood frame.

## Description

This 18th century American manuscript records a birth in ornamental pen and ink, centered on the name Eliza Haskell and dated October 30, 1791, surrounded by decorative calligraphy and symbolic motifs. Such documents were often created by itinerant or school trained penmen, combining record keeping with elaborate script and patriotic imagery like the eagle and the phrase “Pro Patria,” reflecting the ideals of the early republic. Executed on paper with iron gall ink, these manuscripts served both as family records and displays of penmanship, preserving personal history within the visual language of early American folk art.
