## Description

The Studio D'Artisan 8198 Amami Oshima Mud-Dyed Loopwheeled T-Shirt is a meeting point between two of the most labor-intensive textile traditions Japan has to offer. The base fabric is knitted on a loopwheel machine, spinning slowly under the weight of the yarn alone to produce a softness and subtle irregularity that modern knitting equipment simply cannot replicate. The dyeing process is where it gets truly extraordinary. Amami Mud Dyeing is a tradition native to Amami Oshima, built on the tannin-rich dye of the Teichi wheel plum tree combined with iron-rich mud drawn from strata over 1.5 million years old. The two react with each other on the fabric in a process that requires repeated dyeing and mud-bathing cycles, each one deepening the color and locking in a warmth and richness that no synthetic dye can touch. Tommy is wearing a large in this one and it fit quite a bit better than the printed t-shirts from the same release. We wouls still recommend sizing up once, because while there is room, it's not a ton more.
