This locket would have been worn from a watch fob or chatelaine and used to hold coins, or sovereigns, by way of a sprung sovereign platform inside. Both the front and back covers are hand hammered, giving a light-catching texture. The underside of the lid is stamped with a full set of hallmarks: an anchor, a lion, the date 1903, another date of 1904, and maker’s mark “ALD.” The two different dates are a mystery. This handsome silver case is 50 mm high, including the bale, and 34.4 mm wide. It’s depth is 19.8 mm and weight is 31.4 grams.This silver Victorian case would make a beautiful pendant around your neck or hanging from your watch chain.
