Violin child prodigy and composer Georges Enescu (1881-1955) wrote Concertstück for viola and piano in 1906 for a competition and used as the 1908 examination piece by the Conservatoire de Paris. In a single long movement, Concertstück is a lyrical rhapsody that combines French impressionism and Romanian folk music. It is a phenomenal work for showcasing a violist's abilities.
