This composition unites the sacred with the folkloric, combining the classic six-part form of the Mass with means of expression characteristic of folk music - rhythmic vocal parts, traditional singing styles, and percussion instruments. Laura Jekabsone and the vocal group "Latvian Voices" came to create this work through finding themselves between two distinct traditions: a professional music education and the heritage of Latvian folklore, handed down from generation to generation through the oral tradition. Originally composed for Upper Voice Choir this new arrangement for Mixed Voices has been created by the composer.
