English composer George Butterworth (1885-1916) was a promising young composer and folk song collector of the early 20th century, whose life and career were cut short when killed by a sniper during the Battle of the Somme in the trenches near Pozières during World War I. This collection of eleven folk songs were published in 1912. Included: Yonder Stands a Lovely Creature; A Blacksmith Courted Me; Sowing the Seeds of Love; A Lawyer He Went Out; Come My Own One; The Cuckoo; A Brisk Young Sailor Courted Me; Seventeen Come Sunday; Roving in the Dew; The True Lover's Farewell; Tarry Trowsers.
