The manuscript score is the only extant source for this work. Heroic Elegy , written on tow gatherings of eight folios, is inscribed 'Finished 1.40 a.m. Jan. 22, 1901'. Triumphal Epilogue , on six gatherings of varying numbers of folios, is inscribed 'Finished Nov. 6, 1901 / Revised Aug-Sept 1902'. The two movements are bound together, although separate pagination and title pages underscore the different dates of composition.
