Composed between 1866 and 1867 as the Overture on Three Czech Themes , Mily Balakirev (1837-1910) later revised the work in 1905 into the symphonic poem In Bohemia . He discovered the three Czech folk melodies in Vienna, drawn from the collection "Marriage among the Czech People" by B.M. Kulda. The selected songs are contrasting in character-one slow and reflective, another lively and merry, and the third rhythmically complex-showcasing the diverse emotional and stylistic range of Czech folk music.
