JACK TAR is one of those rollicking marches set aptly in 6/8 time. In addition to the use of a repeat of the first strain prior to the Trio and a hornpipe in 2/4 replacing the usual "break" strain, Sousa added a boatswain's whistle and ship's bell to increase the nautical flavor suggested by the title.
