Milton Babbitt's Piano Quartet (1995) was premiered at a Library of Congress concert held at the Kennedy Center's Terrace Theater in honor of his 80th birthday in May 1996. He dedicated his 23-minute dodecaphonic piece to the artists Rolf Schulte, Toby Appel, Fred Sherry, and Robert Taub.
