The Six Sonatas, Op. 1 was composed for cello and continuo in the early 18th century (published c. 1712-1714) by Benedetto Marcello (1686-1739), the Venetian nobleman, composer, and writer whose music bridged the late Baroque with the emerging galant style. The work is influenced by the Italian sonata tradition cultivated by composers such as Corelli. The collection remains a respected work within the Baroque chamber repertoire. This edition was completed by Walter Schulz and includes a continuo part for a second cello and a realization of the continuo for harpsichord by Siegfried Prtische. Reprint edition.
