This edition of Bach's Six Suite was transcribed for viola by Watson Forbes. He worked with the Bach-Gesellschaft edition and a facsimile of the manuscript copied by Anna Magdalena. The viola part, in suites one through five, is written one octave higher than in the original. For practical purposes, Suite No. 6 has been transposed from the key of D major to G major.
