Written over the course of a few days in January, 1887, Antonín Dvorák's (1841-1904) TERZETTO in C, Op. 74/B. 148 was composed for two violinists who happened to be living in the same house as the Dvorák family. The composer's intention was to have the two men, Josef Kruis and Jan Pelikán, play the violin parts while Dvorák performed on the viola. The work proved to difficult for Kruis, which prompted Dvorák to write an easier string trio, MINIATURES (Drobnosti), Op. 75a/B. 149 for the men. Dvorák also created an arrangement for violin and piano, ROMANTIC PIECES (4), Op. 75/B. 150. The TERZETTO premiered on March 30, 1887, in Prague, performed by Karel Ondrícek, Jan Buchal, and Jaroslav Štastný. Movements: 1. Introduzione. Allegro ma non troppo; 2. Larghetto; 3. Scherzo. Vivace -- Trio. Poco meno mosso; 4. Tema con variazioni. Poco Adagio--Molto. Reprint edition.
