UNE NUIT À LISBONNE, Op. 63 is a short piece for orchestra by Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921), composed in 1880 while visiting Lisbon. Dedicating it to the king of Portugal, Luís I, he conducted the premiere at the Teatro de São Carlos on November 13, 1880 in the presence of the royal couple. Described by the composer as a "little barcarolle," the piece evokes a lilting boat song. The first Parisian performance took place under his baton at the Cirque d'Hiver in Paris on January 23, 1881. Instrumentation: 1.1.1.1: 2.0.0.0: Hp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set).
