Commissioned by the Unites States Air Force Academy Cadet Welfare Fund in commemoration of the Academy's tenth anniversary. It was suggested that a slow, hymn-like section be included in the concert overture, "The Ramparts," to be sung by the Cadets. The result is the inclusion of "What Greater Thing."
